INTRODUTION
Yesterday we had pleasure to received volunteers from Kenya Red Cross society Sololo chapter who spent the whole day at Obbitu children home having party with the Obbitu children and their staff.
We were humbled and felt grateful for the recognition.
Foods were prepared e.g Chapati, nyama choma, greens vegetables and Cake cutting was the order of the day .
There was also entertainments.
The Red Cross volunteers requested to a have a friend of the children, we agreed and each was allow identifying a child to be assigned to. This idea of friendship of Child and volunteer will be extended even in future whereby they will be visiting the child and observe progress. The progress of their friend providing them with small items such as soap, tissues, sanitary pads etc.
The team leader requested if they are allowed to establish “a junior red cross club” here in Obbitu so that they can visit Obbitu after 2 months. This was postponed for further consultation with management team
INTRODUZIONE
Ieri abbiamo avuto il piacere di ricevere i volontari della sezione di Sololo della società della Croce Rossa del Kenya che hanno trascorso l’intera giornata a casa dei bambini di Obbitu facendo festa con i bambini di Obbitu e il loro staff.
Siamo stati onorati e ci siamo sentiti grati per il riconoscimento.
I cibi che sono stati preparati erano quelli all’ordine del giorno, ad esempio Chapati (piadine), nyama choma (carne arrosto), verdure verdi e il taglio della torta. Ci sono stati anche intrattenimenti.
I volontari della Croce Rossa hanno chiesto di avere un abbinamento personale con un bambini, abbiamo acconsentito e ad ognuno è stato permesso di identificare un bambino a cui assegnarsi. Questa idea di amicizia del bambino e del volontario rimarrà anche per ii futuro per cui visiteranno il “loro” bambino gemellato e osserveranno i progressi. I progressi del loro amico saranno supportati da utili doni, fornendo loro piccoli oggetti come sapone, fazzoletti, assorbenti ecc.
Il caposquadra ha chiesto se gli fosse permesso di istituire “un club di croce rossa junior” qui a Obbitu in modo da poter tornare in visita al Villaggio Obbitu dopo 2 mesi. Questo punto è stato rinviato per ulteriori consultazioni e verrà portato per una decisione definitiva al team di gestione di Cipad

The team Donated 20 Mosquito nets, Toms Shoes and Biscuits and sweets for children.
They also promised to return to Obbitu and interact more.
Mr. Mutembei who is team leader donated 1000sh for Qabale to by her school uniform.
All donations including food and none food items was purely from the individual contribution of each member not from Red Cross office.
The friendship with children will be basically informal and the idea was brought about by children from Sololo who are doing volunteer work at Kenya Red Cross with this area.
The event was closed at 5.00pm

Il team ha donato 20 zanzariere, scarpe Toms e biscotti e caramelle per bambini.
Hanno ripetutamente promesso di tornare al Villaggio Obbitu per interagire di più.
Il signor Mutembei, che è il caposquadra, ha donato 1000sh a favore di Qabale per la sua nuova uniforme scolastica.
Tutte le donazioni, incluso i cibi, provenivano esclusivamente dal contributo individuale di ciascun membro e non dall’ufficio della Croce Rossa.
L’amicizia con i bambini sarà sostanzialmente informale; questa è una idea che è nata in modo spontaneo tra quei minori di Sololo che in quest’area stanno facendo volontariato presso la Croce Rossa del Kenya.

Dear Supporting Friends of Cipad in Italy
Carissimi Amici Sostenitori di Cipad in Italia,
these clarifications contained in the official Cipad report make me particularly happy.
When I gave you the news of the visit of the Volunteers to the Obbitu Village, I did so with the desire to communicate to you how I interpreted their presence in an extremely positive way which I saw as the measure of the level of appreciation the people of Sololo had for the work of Cipad.
Now the clarification that these volunteers have taxed themselves to bring gifts and that they have asked for an individual twinning with the children who are guests of the village … personally makes me enthusiastic.
It is proven proof that Humanity (the one with a capital “U”) is Wonderful and has its best elements everywhere … even in isolated and extremely difficult places to live.
Think of the ongoing famine due to the very long drought and torrential rains … despite this, there are those who sacrifice themselves and think of those who are most in need …
To our children, thanks to you supporters, Cipad try not to miss anything … Now these Red Cross Volunteer friends are promising to give them, with individual twinning, something priceless and that cannot be bought, Love.
This Love is what the “Visiting White Volunteers” of past years have brought to the first group of residents in Obbitu Village. Love is Love, therefore it is always the same, but certainly when it is brought by those of the same culture, Love has the opportunity to be perceived better by a child.
I confess, that the fact of being able to welcome Italian Volunteers only sporadically in Sololo (mainly for security reasons), makes me feel “guilty” towards our children who are very vulnerable since they are already brutally affected by life and for this reason are particularly in need of deep and sincere affections.
The Sololo Red Cross Volunteers, with individual twinning, will be wonderful “life tutors” like responsible older brothers. They will be able to fill the great voids of these still innocent souls with their affection.
I recommend the Cipad operators to coordinate and supervise with great delicacy and equally firmness, in their role as “parents of the resident children”, the interventions of these “elder brothers” Volunteers so that no one, even in an unwanted way, can ever feel excluded. All children are loved in the same way and all Volunteers can do it knowing how to dose and fairly distribute their expertise and generosity equally to all.

queste precisazioni contenute nel rapporto ufficiale di Cipad sappiate che mi rendono particolarmente felice.
Quando vi avevo dato la notizia della visita dei Volontari all’Obbitu Villaggio, lo facevo con il desiderio di comunicarvi come io interpretassi in modo estremamente positivo questa loro presenza che vedevo come la misura del livello di gradimento che ha la gente di Sololo per il lavoro di Cipad.
Ora la precisazione che questi volontari si sono autotassati per portare doni e che hanno chiesto un individuale gemellaggio con i bambini ospiti del villaggio … personalmente mi rende entusiasta.
E’ la prova provata che l’Umanità (quello con la “U” maiuscola) è Meravigliosa e ha i suoi elementi migliori ovunque … anche in posti isolati ed estremamente difficili da vivere.
Pensate alla carestia in corso dovuta alla lunghissima siccità ed alle piogge torrenziali … nonostante questo c’è chi si sacrifica e pensa a chi è più bisognoso …
Ai nostri bambini, grazie a voi donatori, Cipad cerca di far mancare nulla … Ora questi amici Volontari della Croce Rossa stanno promettendo di regalare loro, con il gemellaggio individuale, qualcosa di impagabile e che non si può comprare: l’Amore.
Questo Amore è quello che i “Volontari visitatori bianchi” degli anni passati hanno portato al primo gruppo dei residente nel Villaggio Obbitu. L’Amore è l’Amore, quindi è sempre lo stesso, ma di certo quando è portato da chi è della stessa cultura l’Amore ha modo di farsi percepire meglio da un bambino.
Vi confesso che il fatto di poter accogliere solo sporadicamente a Sololo (in prevalenza per motivi di sicurezza) i Volontari italiani, mi fa sentire “colpevole” verso i nostri bambini che sono molto vulnerabili poiché già brutalmente colpiti dalla vita e per questo sono particolarmente bisognosi di affetti profondi e sinceri.
I Volontari della Croce Rossa di Sololo, con il gemellaggio individuale, saranno dei meravigliosi “tutor di vita” come dei fratelli maggiori responsabili. Potranno colmare con il loro affetto i grandi vuoti di queste anime ancora innocenti.
Raccomando agli operatori di Cipad di coordinare e supervisionare con molta delicatezza ed altrettanta fermezza, nel loro ruolo di “genitori dei bambini residenti”, gli interventi di questi Volontari “fratelli maggiori” affinchè nessuno, anche in modo non voluto, si possa mai sentire escluso. Tutti i bambini siano amati nello stesso modo e tutti i Volontari possano farlo sapendo dosare ed equamente distribuire la loro competenza e generosità in egual misura a tutti.
